The Mattei Affair (1972) chronicles the life and mysterious death of Enrico Mattei, a pivotal figure in Italy's post-war history. Initially a resistance fighter against Nazi occupation, Mattei later became a key player in Italy's energy sector, founding A.G.I.P. and leading ENI, a state-owned entity focused on oil resource development. On October 27, 1962, Mattei's private plane crashed just before landing in Milan, officially ruled as an accident. However, numerous journalists have since delved into alternative explanations for the tragic incident, questioning the true cause of the crash. The film won the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival.
