21 (2008) is a gripping tale inspired by Ben Mezrich's nonfiction book "Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions." The narrative follows a group of brilliant MIT students who master the skill of card counting to gain an edge in the high-stakes world of Las Vegas casinos. Ben Campbell, a reserved and brilliant student, joins forces with a team of his peers to fund his education by exploiting the casinos' weaknesses. Under the guidance of their unconventional math professor and statistical genius, Micky Rosa, the group employs a sophisticated system of signals and card counting to consistently win at blackjack. As Ben becomes entangled in the allure of easy money, the glamorous Las Vegas lifestyle, and his attraction to a fellow team member, Jill Taylor, he begins to take greater risks. The thrill of the game and the high stakes lead to a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with Cole Williams, the casinos' formidable enforcer, who is determined to expose their scheme.
