The White Viking (1991) is set in Norway during the tumultuous 10th century. The story revolves around Askur, the son of the influential Thorgeir, who ties the knot with Embla, the daughter of one of the last remaining landowners in Norway, in a traditional pagan ritual. The newlyweds' happiness is short-lived as King Olav, a merciless Christian ruler, seeks to eradicate all non-Christian practices and seizes the couple during their ceremony. To secure Embla's freedom, Askur is compelled to journey to Iceland and persuade the locals to adopt Catholicism.
