The Sisters (1938) follows the lives of three sisters who gather for the inauguration celebration of Teddy Roosevelt, each finding love and embarking on unique journeys. Helen ties the knot with a wealthy man she doesn't love, Grace marries a local and settles in Montana, and Louise elopes with Frank to San Francisco, where he secures a sports writing position. Tragedy strikes when Louise suffers a miscarriage and Frank loses his job after requesting a raise. Louise finds employment at a department store, but Frank, believing he's a burden, joins a ship's crew headed for China. Louise survives the devastating earthquake and fire, eventually reuniting with her sisters in Montana for another presidential celebration, where Frank unexpectedly returns, seeking a second chance.
