White Squadron (1936) follows the journey of Lieutenant Mario Ludovici, an army officer who seeks a fresh start by requesting a transfer to a remote Libyan outpost after his romantic relationship with Cristiana, a high-society woman, hits a rough patch. Initially, Captain Santelia, the tough and seasoned leader of the troops, views Ludovici as ineffectual. However, Ludovici's mettle is tested and proven during a grueling campaign against a rebellious tribe. When Santelia is fatally injured, Ludovici takes command and returns to the post as the new leader. Cristiana arrives to persuade him to return to Rome, but Ludovici chooses to remain in Africa, committed to his military duties.
