Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) follows Neal Page (Steve Martin), a man determined to return home to Chicago from a business trip in New York City for Thanksgiving. However, his journey takes an unexpected turn when he is rerouted to Wichita, Kansas, due to a series of mishaps. Stranded, Neal reluctantly shares a hotel room with Del Griffith (John Candy), a cheerful but eccentric shower-curtain-ring salesman. Despite Neal's initial frustration with Del's antics, he finds it impossible to shake him off. Their attempts to reach Chicago are thwarted by a series of misfortunes, including train breakdowns and rental car malfunctions. Along their chaotic journey, they encounter a variety of eccentric characters, from eccentric cab drivers to rowdy truckers and overly amorous bus passengers.
