City for Conquest (1940) follows the journey of Danny Kenny, a truck driver portrayed by James Cagney, who ventures into the world of boxing. Alongside his former sweetheart, Peggy, played by Ann Sheridan, Danny finds success in the ring. However, his career takes a tragic turn when he is blinded by acid during a fight. Seeking vengeance against the gangster responsible for his blindness, Danny is gravely injured. His former manager steps in to help, setting up a newsstand for the now-blind and handicapped Danny. Using his earnings, Danny supports his brother Eddie's musical aspirations. The film is adapted from a novel of the same name.
