The End of the Game (1919) follows Frank Miller as he ventures into a bustling California gold rush town during the 1849 gold rush, only to be swindled out of his belongings in a rigged card game orchestrated by a cunning gang. Meanwhile, his sister Mary anxiously awaits him at their hotel. Enter Burke Allister, a refined gambler from Virginia, who intervenes and ensures Frank recovers his losses. However, tragedy strikes when Frank is fatally shot by Faro Ed, prompting Burke to take revenge by killing Faro Ed. Burke and Mary then set out to establish mining claims away from the town, but their efforts prove fruitless. Dan Middleton, the gang leader, becomes infatuated with Mary and dispatches Four-Ace Baker to sow discord by falsely implicating Burke in Frank's murder. Deceived, Mary leaves Burke and joins Middleton. When Burke returns to town for medical help after Mary is injured, he is captured by Middleton's men. Burke manages to escape and confronts Middleton, leading to a climactic battle where Middleton meets his end by falling off a cliff. Ultimately, Burke wins Mary's affection.
