Welcome in Vienna 1 : God Does Not Believe in Us Anymore (1982) follows the harrowing journey of Ferry Tobler, a young Viennese Jew whose life is forever altered when his father is brutally murdered by the Nazis in 1938. Compelled to flee his homeland, Ferry seeks refuge in Prague, where he forms an alliance with another exile and a compassionate Czech relief worker. United by their shared plight, the trio, along with other Jewish refugees, embark on a perilous trek to Paris. Their journey takes a grim turn when they are imprisoned in a French camp, but their resilience drives them to escape and reach Marseille. From this port city, they harbor the hope of finding a safe haven across the sea.
