A Better Tomorrow II (1988) follows the story several years after the original film. Sung Tse Ho (Ti Lung) and his sibling Tse Kit (Leslie Cheung) are now undercover law enforcement officers. They are gathering evidence against Lung's (Dean Shek) shipbuilding enterprise, which is suspected of counterfeiting. In reality, Lung's aide, Ko Ying Pui, is the mastermind behind the counterfeit scheme and plans to eliminate Lung to seize control of the company. The brothers intervene to save Lung and accompany him to New York, where he is to be protected by Ken (Chow Yun Fat), a former hitman now living a peaceful life in the United States. Eventually, Ken chooses to assist Lung in returning to Hong Kong. Furthermore, Ken, Ho, and Kit are resolute in their mission to apprehend Ko, even if it means sacrificing their own lives.
