Cellmates (2011) follows Leroy Lowe, the grand dragon of the Texas Ku Klux Klan, as he grapples with his deeply ingrained hatreds after being sentenced to three years of hard labor on a prison work farm. Warden Merville, determined to reform Leroy, pairs him with Emilio, a Hispanic field worker imprisoned for advocating for labor rights. Confined in a cramped cell with someone he views as an enemy, Leroy's anger and prejudice begin to erode as he interacts with the talkative Emilio. Weekly rehabilitation sessions with the warden, initially unbearable due to the warden's monotonous lectures on farm labor, take on new significance when Madalena, a beautiful Mexican maid, is hired to clean the warden's office. An unexpected love story blossoms, opening Leroy's eyes to the possibility of a different life. A man once steeped in racism finds himself on a new path to redemption.
