The story follows Claus and Lavie, a young pilot and co-pilot duo who navigate the skies in their Vanship, earning a living as couriers. Their lives take a dramatic turn when they rescue a young girl from a peculiar, star-shaped killing machine. Driven by a desire to protect the girl, they embark on a perilous mission to deliver her to the renowned mercenary ship, Sylvana. Along the way, they become integral members of the Sylvana crew, honing their skills as fighter pilots. Claus and Lavie, both orphans, have inherited their late fathers' legacy of delivering messages via their Vanship. During a thrilling Vanship race, they come to the aid of a foreign Vanship under attack by a Guild machine. The injured pilot entrusts them with a high-stakes mission: to safely deliver a little girl named Alvis to the legendary ship, Sylvana. Eager to achieve their dream of crossing the formidable Grand Stream, Claus and Lavie join the Sylvana crew, with Alvis, to refine their abilities as a pilot and mechanic/navigator.
