Surrender (1927) follows the story of Lea Lyon, a young woman living peacefully with her rabbi father in the village of Gulicinu. The tranquility of their lives is disrupted by the impending threat of war. The village is soon invaded by the Imperial forces of the Russian Czar, led by the commanding officer Constantine. Captivated by Lea's beauty, Constantine demands her presence in his quarters. Lea, however, steadfastly refuses, which enrages him. In retaliation, Constantine orders the villagers to be confined to their homes and the village to be set ablaze. Unable to endure the suffering of her community, Lea makes the difficult decision to walk through the village to the Inn, despite her deep commitment to her honor.
