Drums Along the Mohawk (1939) follows the journey of Gil Martin and his newlywed wife Lana as they settle into their new life in a secluded farm in upstate New York during the tumultuous period of the American Revolution. Despite the isolation from the nearest fort, the couple finds contentment in their modest one-room cabin. However, their tranquility is disrupted when the Declaration of Independence sparks a conflict with the British and their Native American allies. The Martins' farm is destroyed, forcing them to seek refuge and employment with Sarah McKlennar. As the war rages on, the Martins strive to rebuild their lives amidst the chaos and uncertainty.
