Inner Sanctum (1948) follows a man who inadvertently causes the death of his fiancée while disembarking from a train. As the train departs, he leaves her body on the rear platform, unaware that a playful, freckle-faced boy witnesses the incident from the seemingly deserted station. Later, while walking along a road, the man is picked up by the town's newspaper editor, who informs him that a flood has destroyed the bridge, leaving no way out of town. The editor takes the stranger to a boarding house, which, by fate, is where the boy resides. The boy suspects the new boarder's identity, and the boarder, feeling threatened, plans to eliminate the boy. Meanwhile, a seductive blonde at the house is drawn to the man, despite knowing his dark secret.
