52-Hertz Whales (2024) follows the journey of Mishima Kiko, a woman who, after enduring exploitation by her own family, decides to break free and relocate from the bustling city of Tokyo to a tranquil seaside town in Oita. In her new environment, she crosses paths with a 13-year-old boy named Mushi. Mushi, who has suffered severe abuse at the hands of his mother, has retreated into silence as a coping mechanism. Kiko finds a poignant reflection of her own past struggles in Mushi, sparking a deep connection between them.
