Behind Prison Gates (1939) follows Detective Norman Craig as he adopts the persona of a deceased bank robber, Red Murray, to infiltrate a prison and track down three elusive bank robbers sought by the police. Initially, his undercover operation proceeds smoothly. However, the situation takes a dramatic turn when Craig's partner is discovered dead in his cell, shot through the head. Now, Craig must not only locate the robbers but also uncover the identity of his partner's killer. He strategically manipulates the three suspects, exploiting their greed and paranoia to provoke infighting, hoping they will expose each other and reveal the truth.
