The Prisoner of Zenda (1952) follows the tale of Rudolph Rassendyll (Stewart Granger), a British tourist exploring the Balkan nation of Ruritania. Locals and officials alike are struck by Rassendyll's uncanny resemblance to Prince Rudolph, who is set to be crowned king in a few days. The prince's staff facilitates a meeting between the two men. However, Rupert (James Mason), the prince's cunning brother, plots to seize the throne by poisoning Prince Rudolph the night before his coronation. In a desperate move, the prince's loyalists ask Rassendyll to impersonate the prince during the coronation to prevent Rupert from taking the throne. Rassendyll agrees, and the ceremony proceeds smoothly. But when Rupert's men uncover the deception, they capture the real prince and threaten to expose the secret of the new "king." Rassendyll's predicament deepens as he develops feelings for Princess Flavia (Deborah Kerr), the intended bride of Prince Rudolph.
