Midnight (1939) follows the story of Eve Peabody (Claudette Colbert), an American performer in Paris who finds herself unemployed, penniless, and unlucky. A charming taxi driver (Don Ameche) offers to take her around the city to find work as a nightclub singer. However, Eve has a more cunning plan: she disguises herself as a Hungarian countess to infiltrate Parisian high society. This deception leads her to a life of opulence, where she is tasked by a wealthy aristocrat (John Barrymore) to lure a French playboy (Francis Lederer) away from Barrymore's unfaithful wife (Mary Astor).
