Rancid (2004) follows the journey of John Hayson, a former aspiring writer who now ekes out a living through sporadic writing assignments. A personal tragedy has left him detached from the world and his craft, causing him to drift through life aimlessly. During a high school reunion, he encounters three old acquaintances who resurface like dark specters from his past. Among them is the love of his life, and Hayson attempts to correct past mistakes and regain control of his life. However, fate intervenes, and he becomes entangled in a nightmarish web of deception, passion, and murder. Pursued by the police for a brutal killing, Hayson must decide whether to give in to his darkest impulses or embrace the light that could restore his faith in himself and his future.
