The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) commences with the devastation of Missouri farmer Josey Wales' (Eastwood) home and family by Union soldiers, prompting him to join the Confederate forces in pursuit of vengeance. After years of conflict, Josey declines to surrender to Terrill (McKinney), the individual accountable for his family's demise. He saves Jamie (Bottoms), a wounded young Confederate, from Union soldiers, who subsequently dispatch Terrill and the hesitant Fletcher (Vernon) in pursuit. Josey and Jamie's journey leads them to encounter two Cherokees (George and Keams), a stray dog, and, following a rescue from Comanches, an elderly woman (Trueman) and her granddaughter (Locke). This eclectic group finds refuge at an old farmhouse in Texas, where Josey resolves to cease his flight and confront his pursuers.
