The Shogun's Samurai (1978) unfolds in the wake of the second Tokugawa shogun's demise, as it is uncovered that he was fatally poisoned by loyalists of his son, Iemitsu. These retainers harbored ambitions to secure the shogunate for Iemitsu, despite his speech impediment and a conspicuous birthmark that tarnished his image. This revelation sets the stage for a power struggle between Iemitsu and his sibling, Tadanaga, as both vie for control of the shogunate. The nation is subsequently divided into rival factions, each supporting one of the brothers, leading to a tense and volatile political landscape.
