Sweethearts (1938) follows a renowned musical comedy duo who, after six successful years on Broadway, are presented with an enticing opportunity to transition to Hollywood and star in films. The allure of a fresh start and escape from the constant demands of relatives and friends for performances makes the move to Hollywood appealing. However, when the time comes to sign their Hollywood contract, a misunderstanding arises. Gwen, one half of the duo, becomes convinced that her partner and husband is involved in an affair with their personal assistant. This misconception leads to a split, and the duo continues their musical performances across America with their understudies. Ultimately, they find reconciliation during a Broadway show.
