The Hammer (2007) follows Jerry Ferro, a man whose 40th birthday prompts a stark realization about his unfulfilled life. Once a promising amateur boxer, Jerry abandoned his career to avoid tarnishing his flawless record of mediocrity. He now drifts through various construction jobs and a lackluster relationship, hoping to eventually turn his life around. His sole link to the boxing world is the evening boxing class he instructs for middle-aged professionals at a Pasadena gym, where he also works as a handyman. When legendary boxing coach Eddie Bell invites Jerry to spar with rising star Malice Blake, Jerry hesitantly enters the ring. Despite a brutal beating, Jerry's single-punch knockout of Blake inspires him to resume his boxing career. This marks the end of a 20-year hiatus and the start of a comedic journey towards Olympic glory.
