Mister Big (1943) unfolds at the Davis School of the Theatre, a prestigious institution led by Jeremy Taswell, where young students immerse themselves in the world of drama and the performing arts. The school's instructors, Johnny Hanley and Alice Taswell, share a deep romantic connection. Among the students are Donald, Patricia, and Peggy, who harbor secret aspirations to become singers. Patricia's aunt, Mrs. Davis, who owns the school, disapproves of their ambitions. Donald has penned a musical comedy for the annual class production, which the students eagerly wish to perform. However, Mrs. Davis has chosen Sophocles' "Antigone" for the show. Taswell, understanding the students' enthusiasm, agrees to let them perform Donald's musical. Donald cleverly ensures Mrs. Davis is absent on the day of the performance. When Broadway producers in attendance are captivated by Donald's play, Mrs. Davis, impressed by the positive reception, decides to support the production.
