La cage aux rossignols (1945) follows Clement Mathieu (Noel-Noel), a former reform-school teacher who has penned a memoir about his unique experiences. Struggling to find a publisher, Mathieu takes on a temporary job with a toy-airplane manufacturer, Raymond (Georges Biscot), who kindly publishes Mathieu's memoirs in a newspaper. Intrigued by the story, Mathieu's girlfriend Martine (Michel Francey) encourages him to share more details. Mathieu then recounts how he transformed a group of troublesome students into a harmonious boys' choir, which inspired the film's title. As Mathieu finishes his story, he is surprised to learn that Martine is related to one of his former students.
