Star Trek, the Next Generation: The Best of Both Worlds (TV) (1990) follows the dramatic events that unfold when Admiral J. P. Hanson joins the crew of the Enterprise to probe the destruction of a Federation colony, with suspicions pointing towards the dreaded Borg. Hanson notes that Commander William T. Riker has declined a command position for the third time, opting to remain on the Enterprise. The crew soon encounters a colossal Borg vessel, leading to an intense battle. Innovative strategies are devised to counter the Borg's advanced technology. Captain Jean-Luc Picard is summoned for a historic meeting but is abducted when he resists. Picard discovers the Borg's ruthless assimilation process and their intention to convert him into one of their own. In Picard's absence, Riker steps up to lead the Enterprise through this critical crisis.
