The Palace (2023) unfolds in the opulent and eerie setting of the Palace Hotel, a magnificent castle nestled in a snow-kissed valley in Switzerland. This architectural marvel, constructed at the dawn of the 20th century, attracts affluent and indulgent guests from around the globe, offering a Gothic and enchanting atmosphere. As the year 2000 approaches, the hotel prepares for an unforgettable gathering. A team of diligent staff, including waiters, porters, cooks, and receptionists, are on hand to fulfill the guests' peculiar demands. Hansueli, the hotel's devoted 50-year-old manager, briefs the staff, emphasizing that despite the impending new millennium, it is not the end of the world. However, what ensues is a chaotic and comedic battle driven by the guests' whims and eccentricities. The intertwining narratives create a surreal and thought-provoking black comedy. Set on New Year's Eve of 1999, the story marks not only the end of a century but also the conclusion of a tumultuous millennium, with the looming threat of the Millennium Bug adding to the tension.
