Bluebeard's Eighth Wife (1938) follows the story of Michael Brandon, a wealthy playboy who has been married seven times, with each wife drawn to his vast fortune. While vacationing on the French Riviera, he encounters Nicole de Loiselle, a young woman from a noble but financially struggling family. Despite his initial advances, Nicole rejects him. However, under pressure from her father, she eventually agrees to marry Brandon, making it explicit that her motivation is purely financial.
