Gleich (2023) follows the journey of Kellen, a young boy who has been silent since the loss of his mother. His reserved nature and isolation prompt his father to make a significant decision: a summer trip to the remote island of El Hierro, far from their home in Dresden, Germany. Hoping that this change of scenery will help Kellen cope, they find temporary residence with Alaric and Ebba, a couple with a troubled past. Tensions rise as old wounds and betrayals resurface, straining their relationship. Meanwhile, Kellen forms an unlikely bond with Manuel, an elderly villager with an intellectual disability and a mental age of 10. Their friendship transcends language and communication barriers, offering a unique and profound connection.
