Perth (2004) follows the personal odyssey of Harry Lee, a 51-year-old man who divides his time between working as a security guard and driving a taxi. He is part of a generation that feels overlooked in a society that prioritizes rapid progress and social status. Harry's ultimate dream is to escape the sterile streets of Singapore and find his utopia in Western Australia. However, his plans to emigrate become entangled when he starts working with prostitutes. This job stirs up painful memories from his past. When he develops an unhealthy fascination with a Vietnamese prostitute, it triggers a perilous quest for personal redemption. The film delves into the pressing issue of emigration from Singapore, showcasing the city's hidden underbelly and its multicultural quirks.
