Finishing School (1934) follows the journey of Virginia Radcliff, a wealthy but innocent young woman who enrolls in an elite girls' academy where the facade of propriety hides a more rebellious undercurrent, encapsulated by the unofficial motto, "Don't Get Caught." During a clandestine excursion to the city, orchestrated by her friend "Pony," Virginia encounters Ralph, a hardworking medical student who supports himself by delivering room service at a hotel. Despite their different backgrounds, Virginia and Ralph develop a deep affection for each other, which provokes the ire of the school's stern headmistress, played by Beulah Bondi, and the disapproval of Virginia's otherwise detached mother.
