Story of a Bad Boy (1999) follows the adventures of Paulie, a lanky and innocent-looking high school senior who is eager to explore life's experiences. In his quest, he switches from Greek Orthodox to Catholic to be closer to an Irish boy he has feelings for, engages in playful antics like kissing a nun and wrestling with a classmate, and finds himself falling for his drama teacher, Noel. Paulie's unconventional behavior often lands him in trouble, but his parents simply see him as "weird," while others find him endearing. Set in the early 1980s, Paulie feels constrained by his overbearing mother (Julie Kavner) and stern father (Stephen Lang). Throughout the film, Paulie tries his hand at various activities, including track, guitar lessons, and drum major, ultimately finding his passion in acting. When Noel, a young and attractive student teacher, directs a musical theatre production of Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter," Paulie becomes deeply involved in both the show and his growing feelings for Noel.
