Looney Tunes (TV Series) (1930) is an iconic animated series produced by Warner Bros. that entertained audiences in movie theaters from 1930 to 1969. It was the precursor to the Merrie Melodies series and marked Warner Bros.'s inaugural animated theatrical series. The beloved cast of characters from Warner Bros. animations became widely recognized as the "Looney Tunes," often misspelled as "Looney Toons." The series name was inspired by Silly Symphonies, a concurrent music-based cartoon series by Walt Disney. Initially, Looney Tunes featured Warner-owned musical compositions through the escapades of characters like Bosko and Buddy. Over time, the series introduced iconic characters such as Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Sylvester and Tweety, Marvin the Martian, Taz, Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Pepé Le Pew, Speedy Gonzales, and many more. Originally created by Harman-Ising Pictures, the series was produced by Leon Schlesinger Productions from 1933 to 1944. Schlesinger sold his studio to Warner Bros. in 1944, and the newly renamed Warner Bros. Cartoons continued production until 1963. From 1964 to 1967, Looney Tunes were produced by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, and Warner Bros. Cartoons resumed production for the series' final two years. From 1942 to 1969, Looney Tunes held the title of the most popular cartoon series in theaters.
