Champagne for Caesar (1950) follows the story of Beauregard Bottomley, an eccentric yet unemployed intellectual who is convinced of his vast knowledge. After being turned down for a job by the arrogant Burnbridge Waters, the president of a soap company, due to his sharp wit, Bottomley decides to participate in the company's renowned quiz show. Contestants on the show dress in costumes representing their academic field, so Bottomley appears as an encyclopedia. After successfully answering his allotted questions, he challenges the show's bold and witty host to return the following week to wager double or nothing on another question. Recognizing a potential boost in ratings, Waters agrees. As Bottomley continues to confidently answer every question, Waters realizes that the genius aims to deplete his 40 million dollars. Waters then enlists the help of the intelligent and attractive Flame O'Neill to get close to the bachelor and uncover his weakness.
