The film was created by interweaving footage from a short film titled "The Peeper" with a previously unreleased black-and-white Western called "The Wide Open Spaces." The latter featured a cowboy who had peculiar visions of cows as naked girls, making it difficult to watch. The distributor of "The Wide Open Spaces" acquired "The Peeper" and commissioned the filmmaker to integrate the two, providing a budget of $500 for the task. The filmmaker, Francis Ford Coppola, took on the role of editor and director, crafting a cohesive narrative from the disparate elements. Coppola's excitement at seeing his name on a film led him to credit himself as "Directed by FFC," even though he was primarily responsible for editing and creating the original short about a man eavesdropping on a photo session.
