Defiance (TV Series) (2013) is a science fiction drama that unfolds in a future where extraterrestrial beings, collectively known as Votans, arrive on Earth after their home solar system is destroyed. Despite initial negotiations with Earth's government, the Votans face hostility and resistance. This leads to a prolonged conflict as the Votans, determined to make Earth their new home, engage in a war with humanity. The war results in significant environmental changes, with terraformers altering the planet's surface, creating a harsh and alien landscape. After decades of fighting, a ceasefire is declared as both sides recognize the need for survival in this transformed world. The narrative centers around Jeb Nolan, a veteran of the war who returns to his hometown of St. Louis to find it drastically changed into a refugee camp. Seeking to make a difference, Jeb takes on the role of Chief Lawkeeper in the town of Defiance, where he works to maintain order amidst the tensions between humans, aliens, military scavengers, and other dangerous elements.
