La femme que j'ai le plus aimée (1942) follows the story of Claude, a young man devastated by his recent breakup. Overwhelmed by grief, Claude contemplates ending his life as a means to escape his emotional turmoil. Upon returning home, he encounters five older men seated at the dinner table but chooses to retreat to his bedroom instead. His plans are thwarted when a servant notices his revolver. Claude's uncle intervenes, successfully convincing him to reconsider his actions. He then escorts Claude to the dining room, where each of the five guests shares their own tale of heartbreak and despair. Each man reveals that they too once faced the depths of love's agony and had considered ending their lives.
