Peshavar Waltz (1994) is a gripping 1994 Russian action film helmed and scripted by Timur Bekmambetov. The movie offers a vivid portrayal of the war in Afghanistan, drawing from real events—the rebellion of Soviet captives that occurred in Badaber, approximately 24 kilometers from Peshawar, Pakistan. A later iteration of the film, titled "Escape from Afghanistan," was released by Corman in 2002 with an English language soundtrack as a direct-to-video production. The narrative follows an American journalist and a doctor (British and French in the original version) who visit a military base in Pakistan to report on the conditions of prisoners of war. During their stay, the Soviet prisoners stage an uprising and seize control of the base, but face imminent annihilation.
