The Black Adder (TV Series) (1983) is a British historical sitcom that aired from 1983 to 1989, spanning 4 seasons and 25 episodes. The series is set in England during the late 15th century, at the conclusion of the War of the Roses, and presents an alternate history where the Tudor dynasty never came to power. In this version of events, Henry VII is defeated at the Battle of Bosworth Field, and his rival, Richard III, is killed, but his nephew, King Richard IV, ascends to the throne. The narrative centers around Richard IV's younger son, Prince Edmund, a timid and scheming individual who adopts the alias "the Black Adder." Accompanied by his unkempt servant Baldrick and the dim-witted Lord Percy, Edmund devises various plots to secure his path to greatness.
