The Water Babies (1978) follows the journey of a young 12-year-old chimney sweep who is falsely accused of theft and flees into the wilderness. His escape takes an unexpected turn when he plunges into a pool of water and discovers a magical underwater realm inhabited by humanoid creatures. Before he can return to the surface and prove his innocence, he must assist these Water Babies in escaping their confined lake to reach the vast freedom of the ocean.
