Naughty Marietta (1935) follows the tale of a young, elegant French princess named Marie de Namours de la Bonfain, who values genuine love over her royal status. On the brink of a forced marriage to a Spanish nobleman she doesn't love, Marie switches places with her maid, Marietta, who is embarking on a journey to New Orleans to start anew. During their voyage, the ship is seized by pirates, but Captain Richard Warrington and his crew intervene. The captain is captivated by the princess disguised as Marietta, and the feeling is mutual, though he is reluctant to marry and she fears exposure. Back in France, a search is underway for the missing princess. Her uncle and fiancé track her to New Orleans, where her true identity is uncovered. An opulent ball is held in her honor, and Captain Warrington learns that the princess is to be sent back to France. However, he is determined not to let the woman he loves slip away so easily.
