The Master and Margaret (1972) unfolds in the Soviet Union during the Stalin era, weaving together multiple narratives. The story revolves around Nikolai Masoudov, a gifted writer known as the Maestro, and his assistant, Margaret, as they delve into a biblical tale centered around Pontius Pilate. Meanwhile, the malevolent Woland, a manifestation of Satan, and his accomplices, subject the Maestro to relentless persecution, including the murder of a friend and the imprisonment of another in a Siberian Gulag. Driven to paranoia by these ordeals, the Maestro is confined to a mental institution. Undeterred by the risks, Margaret strives to rescue him from his plight.
