Zatôichi kyojo tabi (Zatoichi, Crazy Journey) (1963) follows the adventures of the blind swordsman and masseur, Ichi, who stirs up trouble with a local yakuza gang after triumphing over several of their members in a wrestling contest. Ichi's journey takes an unexpected turn when he discovers that his long-lost love, Tane, is in the vicinity and involved with a formidable samurai who serves the yakuza. Despite the risks, Ichi decides to stay in the village. Concurrently, the young heir to the yakuza leadership grapples with his own fears and insecurities as he is compelled to face off against the formidable Ichi.
