Mr. Majestyk (1974) follows the story of Vince Majestyk, a seasoned U.S. Army Ranger instructor and Vietnam War veteran who has returned to his watermelon farm. To keep his farm financially stable, he must harvest his crop. A local thug attempts to force Majestyk into a protection scheme, using intoxicated individuals as farm laborers. Majestyk rejects the offer and instead hires skilled Mexican migrant workers. The thug retaliates by filing assault charges against Majestyk, leading to his arrest. In jail, Majestyk encounters Renda, a notorious mob hitman being transferred to a more secure prison. Renda's associates attempt to break him out, but Majestyk seizes control and drives off with the handcuffed Renda. Majestyk intends to return Renda to the police to complete his harvest. Renda offers a substantial sum for his freedom, but Majestyk is determined to return to his melons. Renda escapes and reunites with his henchmen, vowing revenge against Majestyk. As they hunt for the "melon picker," they gradually realize that Majestyk is a formidable opponent and that they are the ones being pursued.
