The Crowd (1928) follows the life of John Sims, born on Independence Day in 1900, who initially seems destined for greatness. However, his father's untimely death during his childhood dampens his prospects. Like many others, John ventures to New York City to carve out a future, only to become an anonymous employee (#137) in a vast corporate office. Despite his mundane existence, John finds contentment and hope when he crosses paths with Mary during a blind double date.
