The Panic in Needle Park (1971) follows the harrowing journey of a young woman who travels to New York with the intention of obtaining an abortion. However, her life takes a drastic turn when she becomes deeply entangled in the world of drugs. Her new romantic partner, driven by the need to sustain their shared addiction, turns to robbery and subsequently faces imprisonment. Desperate to maintain her drug habit, she turns to prostitution, leading to a series of complications when her boyfriend discovers her role in his incarceration.
