The Wrong Box (1966) follows a peculiar inheritance scheme known as a tontine, where a group of children are involved in a unique bet/insurance arrangement. Money is invested for each child, growing with interest, and the last survivor stands to inherit the entire sum. The story unfolds as the group diminishes, leaving only two brothers in the running. One brother is closely monitored by his nephews, who are determined to keep him alive at any cost. The other brother, however, lives in poor health and poverty, supporting his somewhat dim-witted grandson. In a series of confusing and comedic events, statues and bodies are mistakenly placed in the wrong boxes, leading everyone to believe that someone has died. The nephews and grandson must now devise a plan to make it appear as though the other brother has passed away first, ensuring that they will inherit a substantial fortune.
