Mr. Long (2017) follows a skilled assassin named Long who accepts a job in Japan. When the mission goes sideways, he is forced to escape, severely wounded. Seeking refuge in an abandoned section of a small town, he is aided by a young boy who provides him with water and clothes. Long settles into one of the rundown houses and begins preparing simple meals for the eight-year-old Jun. Jun's mother, Lily, struggles with drug addiction and, like Long, hails from Taiwan. News of Long’s culinary skills spreads, leading neighbors to set up a mobile food stall. Soon, Long’s noodle soup attracts long lines of customers. With Long’s support, Lily manages to overcome her addiction, and for a time, it seems like a new beginning for this unlikely community.
