Samia (Lynda Benahouda) is the sixth of eight children and is having a difficult time growing up as a French-Algerian in Marseilles. Struggling enough being a teenager, the racist attitudes of her North African family bring her into direct conflict with French values. Strained family relationships make her life more difficult - in particular the relationship between Samia and her mother, and her over-protective brother who tries to control her life after their sister forms a relationship with a French boy. In struggling to discover her identity and become her own person, Samia decides to take control of her life, even if that means rebelling against her family.
